I think I got the best possible Easter gift today, something I will always cherish.
I went to my Grand-Papa's for Easter dinner and he told me he had a huge bag of my Grand-Maman's yarn and knitting needles in what used to be her den. He said I could go and have a look and take whatever I want from it, that I could have the whole bag if I wanted.
When I was a child my Grand-Maman tried to teach me to knit, I wasn't overly interested at the time, but now I've really gotten into it. My Grand-Maman passed away when I was 14 and that was probably the most devastating thing I've ever had to go through. She practically raised me, I loved her more than I loved my own parents, when she died I lost myself.
I still have lots of pictures and such to remember her by, but this giant bag of yarn makes me feel closer to her than I have in a very long time. I found bits of yarn that were leftover from a blanket she knit me when I was 10 or so and I can't wait to knit myself something more to snuggle with that will remind me of her. The act of creating something in a way that she created and with materials that she used just overwhelms me with joy and serenity, like a feeling that in a way I will be communing with my Grand-Maman as I make something. I can't wait.
